Description: This is a nifty, registered(?) cover sent on May 16, 1901, from Kensington P.O., London, U.K., to a J.S. Corlett, 15th Bengal Lancers, Ferezopore, Punjab, British India! The 4-page letter is quite fascinating! The close friend/relative believed that Russia was intent on spreading its influence in and around British India, and encouraged Officer Corlett to maintain his Russian skills! He also gives him various updates on the lives of mutual acquaintances back in Great Britain, and asks that he save any stamps that he may get from China and/or Africa! Later in his military career, J.S. Corlett would be wounded during WW1, and reach at least the rank of major! To continue, the 2, lilac, 1-Penny, GB QV issues are in fine condition! The SOTN cancels from the Kensington P.O. are very fine! The mail received a transit cancel from a Sea Post Office on May 26, 1901, and finally arrived in Ferezopore, British India, on 06/02/01, and received a pretty nice CDS, that's a bit light/faded in a few places. Lastly, as for the envelope, itself, it's in very good condition for something over 123 years old. It does have some stains on either side., including what looks like an area where a match or cigarette may have burned it a bit. The back flap is more than 95% intact. Noted imperfections aside, this remains a unique piece of registered(?), GB, Victoria mail sent to a British Army officer in Ferezopore, Punjab, British India, in 1901!
