He PITCHED 2 NO-HITTERS as a member of the Chicago Cubs (1969, 1971) AND JUST MISSED A 3RD in 1975 when he GAVE UP A DOUBLE WITH 2 OUTS IN THE 9TH as an Oakland Athletic. Holtzman was also a member of the OAKLAND ATHLETICS DYNASY THAT WON 3 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIPS BETWEEN 1972 AND 1974. Interestingly, Holtzman served in the National Guard in 1967 and was therefore only available to pitch weekends, and even so he ended up with a PERFECT 9-0 RECORD in 12 APPEARANCES. Holtzman ended his career with 174 WINS, 7 more than Sandy Koufax, giving Holtzman the MOST WINS OF ANY JEWISH PITCHER IN BASEBALL HISTORY. Holtzman played in 2 ALL-STAR GAMES, won a 4th WORLD SERIES RING in 1978 while with the New York Yankees, and is enshrined in the ST. LOUIS SPORTS HALL OF FAME, the ST. LOUIS JEWISH SPORTS HALL OF FAME, the INTERNATIONAL JEWISH SPORTS HALL OF FAME, the UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME, and the CHICAGO CUBS HALL OF FAME.
