As soon as we saw it, we made plans to install these in our own fleet of aircraft. So we set out to design a Panel Mountto permanently install the device. First and foremost, we were committed to keeping the "footprint" of the Panel Mount to an absolute minimum. The 696 is already 5.7" wide by 7.7" high, taking up valuable real-estate on your instrument panel. We prioritized staying within the 6.25" width of a standard radio stack, and wanted the overall height to be as short as possible. Our solution is a 3D printed mount, measuring 6.20" wide by 8" tall. The beauty of our dock is that you can drill the dock mounting holes exactly where you want them for your instrument panel installation. There is a small tab that protrudes 0.25" to press the power button on top of the unit; no more difficult scrolling the GPS out of its panel dock to simply press the power button to turn the unit on or adjust the backlight; Focus instead on flying your aircraft! Next, we needed to provide a way to manage the cables that connect to the GPS. As you may know, garmin no longer supports the GPSMap 69x line and even cables are getting very difficult to come by. This dock was designed for use with our reproduction cable; We have not provided keyholes for the original cables. Depending if you use our cable or Garmin's, modification to fit your installation may be necessary.
