Description: the d51 is arguably the most famous steam locomotive in Japanese railroad history; it certainly was the most numerous. over 1000 were constructed between 1936 and 1945 primarily by Kawasaki Heavy Industries...used primarily in freight service, the "degoichi", the d51 nickname in japan, served for 40 years, ending its career primarily in Hokkaido island, where electrification of the mainlines occurred last among Japan's 4 main islands. this addition to the kato 2016-x d51 series features the core-less motor design which assures realistic operations at even the slow speeds, the large sprued number board configuration which allows a less fractious number board installation, and the chip led head lamp......the aesthetic appearance of this model is based on the unique tohoku line engine depot design; the small oil reservoir mounted on the tender was used to provide extra steam heat necessary for crossing the high pass on the aforementioned right of way................accessories include alternative couplers for both ends and the aforementioned number boards......instructions in japanese with pictures will guide the assembly process.... i acquired this d51 as one of a 12 steam locomotive lot purchased from a collector who averred that he stored the models in his home completely unused.....this model's pristine appearance and other tells confirmed that the collector's avowal had the ring of verisimilitude.........i elected to forego my usual test run.....
