Description: Late war used sword with 26-inch blade. Leather covered grip longer than normal (10 inch). Leather in good condition. Stainless steel ring at tsuba. Tsuba is iron with factory stamped dragon motif. Scabbard style is military, leather covered wood (usual shrunk leather) with leather hanger strap and silverplated brass ring. One retainer snap is missing from scabbard cover. The sword retainer strap is missing with the snap on the scabbard having been crushed. Both handle retaining dowels (pins) are new replacements. Snaps on scabbard cover sport a Fleur De Leis brand marking. These late war sabers (sword) are rare due to their simple construction and were routinely passed over for more ornate ones. No markings on blade. No Hamon present. Magnetic blade but unusually heavy. Does not conform to military issue so must be civilian donation, police or municipal use (guess on my part). Overall length is 39 inches. I was told this item was brought home by a Korean War veteran. Possibly picked up in Korea, having missed the great round up and destruction of swords in Japan during 1945. Sales to USA only. Hawaii or Alaska would be extra shipping costs.
