In his right hand, he holds a double-edged scythe. This represents symmetry, logic, and the ideology that all of our actions carry consequences. He holds the scythe upwards to express finality. In his left hand, he grips the chain of an hourglass as the sand inside continues to fall, displaying impartiality and inevitability. An owl sits over his left shoulder, complementing the reaper’s emotional detachment with intuition and wisdom. On the owl’s chest lies a white marking in the shape of a square symbolizing thoughts that are well-ordered and clear. Below his robes, the angel of death reveals one of his bony, white feet, showing the divine repercussions of our actions.
