Description: Autographed 4" x 6" 12 bar musical quotation of a song by the Czech composer & musicologist, Prague, May 11, 1936. A Professor of Musicology at Charles University in Prague as of 1935, he was arrested by the Nazi's and tortured by the Gestapo in 1944 and was imprisoned until the end of the war. He was rehired by Charles University in 1947 with retroactive pay back to 1939 and was arrested by the Communists in 1948 for treason until he was "compassionately" released in 1956 due to his poor health. He was a prolific author on musical subjects and edited and annotated many works, especially those of Smetana and Czech choral works. Thank you!
