Description: It is somewhat stunning to think that fake casino chips can have value. Call them what you like: “Commemorative,” “Tribute,” “Fantasy,” etc., the truth is, they are fake. One person who developed a following was Bill Borland, and now his imitation chips have value and are sought after by collectors. Included in his repertoire is this $100 Jolly Trolley casino chip. In 1991, Bill Borland acquired the Nevada & DieCard molds and subsequently had a series of commemorative chips produced by Atlantic Standard. His objective was to sell these chips in his store for $1 each. Borland's partner, Starr Warwick, who lived with him and was responsible for all his bookkeeping, research, and the typing of his 'Blue Book of Casino Chips,' had passed away just before this venture. As a tribute to Starr, Borland commissioned the first five sets of these commemorative chips. Following the completion of these initial sets, Borland sent a Nevada-shaped frame to Jim Blanchard at Atlantic Standard. Accompanying this was a photograph and a copy of the original advertisement display board for these chips, which is showcased at the end of this article. These commemorative chips were never intended to deceive collectors, although some confusion has arisen over time due to inaccurate descriptions on eBay and unscrupulous dealers. It is important to note that none of these chips were ever used in or designed for actual play in any casino. The inlays on these chips resemble some original casino chips and include the opening and closing dates of the respective casinos. Jim Blanchard was adamant that these dates be included on the chips. According to manufacturing records, the first of these commemorative chips produced were the Jolly Trolly $25 and $100 chips, which were misprinted with the denominations in reverse order. In summary, Bill Borland’s endeavor to create and sell commemorative casino chips as a tribute to Starr Warwick evolved into a significant collection of 108 different varieties, with each chip bearing a unique story and historical significance. =========================================================== PLEASE READ REGARDING CONDITION AND BUSINESS BLAH BLAH BLAH: Please look closely at the photographs. All my chips come in a protective coin case so there will be no damage. I have attempted to give accurate information regarding condition and to disclose any defects, stains, etc. I take plenty of pictures to give you an accurate idea of condition. Please look at the pictures! I typically take side 1, side 2, edge and in protective case pictures. My own personal condition rating is what you see, and it’s based upon the Chip Rack’s condition rating system. Keep in mind that condition is in the eyes of the collector, so look closely at the photographs. If you are unhappy with a chip, I will refund your purchase price upon return.
