The record it self may still be in its shrink wrap seal. The cover, inner and any extra inserts such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in top condition. Near Mint (NM)A nearly perfect record. A NM record has more than likely never been played, and the vinyl will play perfectly, with no imperfections during playback. The record should show no obvious signs of wear. A 45 RPM or EP sleeve should have no more than the most minor defects, such as any sign of slight handling. An LP cover should have no creases, folds, seam splits, cut-out holes, or other noticeable similar defects. The same should be true of any other inserts, such as posters, lyric sleeves, etc. Excellent (EX)A excellent record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening of sound quality. The cover, inner and any inserts might have slight wear. Very Good/Very Good Plus (VG/VG+)A very good or very good plus record has obviously been played, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. The cover, inner and any inserts have general wear and tear around edges/corners, light creasing etc but without any major defects. Good/Good Plus (G/G+)A record in good or good plus condition can be played through without skipping. But it will have significant surface noise, scratches, and visible groove wear. A cover or sleeve will have seam splits, especially at the bottom or on the spine. Tape, writing, ring wear, or other defects will be present. While the record will be playable without skipping, noticeable surface noise and "ticks" will almost certainly accompany the playback. Fair (F) Poor (P)The record is still just playable but has not been cared for/stored properly and displays considerable surface noise: it may even skip/jump. The cover and inner will be badly damaged or partly missing.
