Description: John Wesley Hardin1853-1895 Hardin began his life as a gun fighter by shooting an Arkansas gunslinger when he was only 15. He lived an outlaw lift until at 1877 when he was arrested by the Texas Rangers and sentenced to 25 years in jail. He studied law while imprisoned and was pardoned after 15 years. He passed the bar and moved to El Paso to pratice law, but he was a braggart, a drunk and liked to push people around. Within a year of being freed he was killed shot dead after an argument in a bar. McCarty (1905-1960) About the Artist: The combination of a father who was a Minister from Texas and a Mother who was an art teacher from Chicago, may have led to Lea becoming an artist who painted cowboys. He studied at the Chouinard Art School in Los Angeles. He was a painter and a sculptor. He formed the McCarty Potter line and became well known for his bust and figures. In 1956 he began he was commissioned to paint a series of western portraits for the Riverside Inn in Reno. The finished series was a result of three years of research and studying of the photographs of the gunfighters. It has a couple of light finger indents that you can only see if you tilt the right way under a light I tried to photograph them but they don't show up in a picture. This print is a book plate. It has been carefully removed from a vintage book. It has text on the back not relating to the picture.
