Description: Rare 8.5” tablespoon or serving spoon in the John Wendt bird pattern that is remarkably similar and may have been retailed as Tiffany Audubon. Patented in 1865, this highly aesthetic movement pattern was manufactured by a little known New York Silversmith, who generally did not mark his wares. These pieces were mostly retailed by JE Caldwell, but given their similarity to the later Tiffany Audubon pattern, it is reasonable to assume that Tiffany may have purchased the dies when it changed its Japanese pattern to Audubon. 8.5” tablespoon that would be used as a serving spoon today. Lot weighs 2.2 ounces. light wear to the diecast decoration and a very aesthetic style monogram to the reverse.Multiple place settings are available as are other flatware and serving pieces. A remarkable and very early sterling silver place setting. Buyer to pay $12.95 insured priority shipping within the US or 1 pound priority international.
