John Steinbeck "HERE'S WHERE I BELONG" Paul Rogers 1968 FLOP Tryout Playbill

Description: I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York. (See cut songs below.) ....... This is a rare January 1968 playbill (with a newspaper review and two separate clipped photos) from the Pre-Broadway engagement of the TERRENCE McNALLY, ROBERT WALDMAN and ALFRED UHRY musical "HERE'S WHERE I BELONG" at the Shubert Theatre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (The production would open March 3rd, 1968 at the Billy Rose Theatre in New York City and close after only one performance.) ..... Based on John Steinbeck's "EAST OF EDEN", the musical starred PAUL ROGERS and NANCY WICKWIRE and featured JAMES COCO, HEATHER MacRAE, WALTER McGINN, KEN KERCHEVAL, BETTE HENRITZE, DENA DIETRICH, PATRICIA KELLY, GRACIELA DANIELE and CASPER ROOS ..... CREDITS: Music by ROBERT WALDMAN; Lyrics by ALFRED UHRY; Book by TERRENCE McNALLY based on the novel "East of Eden" by JOHN STEINBECK (McNally left the production during tryouts and his name did not appear in the Broadway playbill); Sets designed by MING CHO LEE; Costumes designed by RUTH MORLEY; Choreographed by HANYA HOLM (who was fired in Philadelphia); Directed by MICHAEL KAHN; Produced by MITCH MILLER ..... DETAILS: The 64 page playbill measures 6" X 9" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers and bios of each of the leading actors and members of the creative team, but no cast photos. Also includes a newspaper review from the January 16th, 1968 "Philadelphia Inquirer" and two clipped newspaper photos of cast members WALTER McGINN and HEATHER MAC RAE (daughter of Gordon MacRae) ..... CUT SONGS: The list of musical numbers includes "Good Boy", "Perfect", "Sweeping Change" and "Tell Me About Your Eden" which were cut out-of-town ..... CONDITION: With the exception of light soiling to the cover, this playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian .....
