Description: This is a custom 12" figure commemorating one of the most colorful characters and successful businessmen of the Old West, John Jacob Astor (July 17, 1763 - March 29, 1848). German born Johann Jakob Astor would move to London at age 16 where he would work with his brother George at their uncle's piano and flute manufacturing company. Here Astor learned English and changed the spelling of his name to John Jacob Astor. Astor would migrate to America November 1783, arriving in Baltimore in March 1784. He would rent a room there. His landlady had a daughter who Astor would marry. He was to move to New York City and work at his brother's butcher shop. On the trip to America Astor had become acquainted with a fur trader who explained the fur business. He decided to not only work at the butcher shop but also became involved in the fur trade. Astor would purchase raw furs from Native Americans, prepare them himself, and export the furs to London and elsewhere at a substantial profit. Over the years he would export furs, opium, invest in real estate and other ventures. John Jacob Astor would become the first multi- millionaire in the United States of America. John Jacob Astor was a very interesting character of the old West. This figure would make a nice addition to any collection. PLEASE NOTE while the figure does not look exactly like John Jacob Astor, there is a bit of a resemblance. sold as is. stand included. Please note the following-when a figure is a custom figure that means it is not a licensed product,or "official" but something the customizer did by combining figures and accessories from different makers and toy releases to come up with the custom figure or figures. I started customizing figures a few years back because I couldn't find more than a handful of "official" releases and unable to find figures of people I wanted to collect. I checked in to the market of custom figures. Most of the custom figures available back then cost several hundred dollars, so, I started doing my own. Because I needed to support my new hobby, I started selling some custom figures. My prices reflect my acquisition cost, time involved, and some profit. Thanks for the look, have fun shopping!
