John Howard Bryant / Poems Written From Youth To Old Age 1824-1884 Signed 1st ed

Description: Poems Written From Youth To Old Age, 1824-1884. [with ALS] Author: John Howard Bryant Title: Poems Written From Youth To Old Age, 1824-1884. [with ALS] Publication: Princeton, Illinois: T.P. Streeter, Lessee, Republican Job Department, 1885 Description: Hardcover. First Edition. 6 x 8.5in. vi. 239pp. Publisher's cloth boards with gilt ruling and titling. Signed and briefly inscribed by the author on the second blank: "Richard Edwards from John H. Bryant. July 1885." An autograph signed letter is also laid-in from Bryant to Edwards thanking him for a prior letter and updating him on his health and social life. However, the main portion of the letter is a continued discussion about their "region," it's peculiarities and natural beauty. Richard Edwards was a noted Welsh American Educator who lived in Princeton, Illinois, where the book was published and, evidently, had an extensive correspondence with Bryant regarding the area. Bryant's prose is poetic and emotional throughout. VERY GOOD. Shows the extremities marginally shelf rubbed, front and back hinge with surface loss of the paper only, last several blanks paper clip outlines from where the ALS had previously been kept, otherwise the binding is strong and tight, the text is exceptionally clean and unmarked, and the boards remain bright and distinct. As pictured. Each item in our inventory has been carefully inspected, photographed and described to meet the standards of the discerning book buyer.
