Fitzgerald, for hosting his birthday party at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City: “I want you to know how much I appreciated all the efforts you made and time you spent in making my Birthday Party in New York on May 23rd such a success. It was delightful and I am very grateful to you for the part you played in making it so enjoyable.” Kennedy gave a famous speech at the party highlighting his views on the Democratic Party, “The two political parties in our history have always been divided, as [Ralph Waldo] Emerson said in the party of hope and the party of memory, from the time of [Thomas] Jefferson, we have been the party of hope.” “I WANT YOU TO KNOW HOW MUCH I APPRECIATED ALL THE EFFORTS YOU MADE AND TIME YOU SPENT IN MAKING MY BIRTHDAY PARTY IN NEW YORK ON MAY 23RD SUCH A SUCCESS.
