Subject: Original release form sent prepared by and returned to The American Film Institute that has been signed by Joan Crawford granting permission to use her image in amongst their film clips as part of their televised AMERICAN FILM INSTITUTE SALUTE TO BETTE DAVIS. Film clips from the legendary camp classic WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? (1962) featuring scenes with Joan and Bette were used in the telecast. Joan here signs off her permission for that to happen. The Salute was broadcast on March 1, 1977 (you can view the original telecast on YouTube). Sadly, Joan would pass away later in the year. Description: The very definition of one of a kind! This is about as wonderful of a connection of Joan and Bette as one could hope for in a signed item from the film legend. Signed in her typical larger signature style in vintage black fiber tip pen. Size: 8 1/2" by 11" legal standard. Release letter prepared on an IBM Selectric typewriter and carbon copied for this signature form.sigPaper Weight: Single Date of autograph: 1977 Condition: Fine vintage condition, original folds from mailing and file punch holes at head. A bit of age toning on the edges. Signs of light handling over the years as this is a vintage piece that has gone through the mail, been filed, auctioned later, etc.. No tears or staining present. Stored flat for decades so that the folds have smoothed out over time. Are we asking an 'arm and a leg' for this item? Probably most would say "yes". Will another uniquely Crawford/Davis item of this caliber appear on the market again? Probably "no". This is a marquee piece....a jewel. If it doesn't attract any potential serious buyers....that's certainly fine......and we'll gladly keep it as part of our collection.
