Description: We consign local artists in an annual art auction we do in house. We are auctioning off dozens of Jack Deloney prints and his sister, also an artist submitted two original works she was given by Jimmie Personally. We stand behind all of our art. We guarantee the art can be successfully authenticated. Here is the provenance from the owner and how she acquired these works. Our business is also insured to sell high value art work, we are not a garage run ebay operation. Mrs Bates: “ We met in the late 80’s at that Sylacauga, Alabama show and he was unbelievably entertaining. In between selling and talking, he played his harmonica and patted his foot to the rhythm. He told me he had been on the Today Show and 60 minutes! He talked about how he just “drawed what he knew”. He loved to paint farm scenes, flowers, and animals of the barnyard”. He told me he used mud and liquids such as motor oil and plant juices. When I asked about the color in some of his work, he said they were his earliest work and he used house paints. I immediately purchased my two Jimmie Lee’s as he had filled my heart with knowledge he had acquired before I was even born. Jimmie Lee told me all about American Folk Life and Art. He had “showed” at the Smithsonian Institute’s Bicentennial Festival and they bought some of his plywood works of art. I chose the horses because he said he didn’t know why he painted 5. He usually stopped at 4, but this piece of plywood was longer. It was painted with mud and chalk and one of his earliest works and 5 horses instead of his normal 4. The old house was one of a subject matter he painted in various ways. I chose this one because he said “he liked it best, because it had green in it”. That weekend spent with Jimmie Lee is one of my fondest memories of my 20 years of traveling. I never had the pleasure of showing with him again. I kept up with him through friends and newspapers. He became so famous! I couldn’t believe I’d had the chance to meet, talk with, and enjoy such a, now famous man. Meeting and showing my art right next to his, was one of life’s most enduring moments for me. By the 1990’s, I read, Jimmie Lee was no longer able to collect his own materials and used commercial products applied with sponge brushes onto wood with a flat black background. My two pieces are of his early works and I enjoyed them for many years, as I did my memories of Jimmie Lee. I read he was bad to keep resisting leaving his home as he grew older. I could see that persistence in my mind’s eye. I remember him as a determined soul who painted what he knew and to change his scenery would change him. I understood why he resisted leaving his home. He spent his last year of his life in the Fayetteville Nursing Home and started his Heavenly journey from the Fayetteville Medical Center, at the age of 97, in September 2, 2007. God gained one of His most loyal and talented souls that day. I’m certain, from my experience with Jimmie Lee, those Pearly Gates were open when he arrived.”
