Description: John F. Kennedy JFK Rare Photo in airplane by Marti Coale (Cole), Photographer My late mother was a photographer who had a large collection of rare photographs. She loved the art of photography and she loved collecting! This image was made by photographer Marti Coale and sold by the photographer in the San Luis Obispo, CA, Art Center. My mother was a long time Art Center employee who purchased it there in 1985. My mother loved the uniqueness and the intimacy of the image, and it was cherished for the rest of her life. Unfortunately, Mom developed dementia later in life, and I was not able to get all the stories behind the items in her extensive collection. I do recall that Mom was very excited that the photographer was living in Cambria, CA, and that she Mom able to acquire such a rare photo. I do not know if there are other prints of this photo. I have been unable to find any, in books or online. I do not know exactly when the photo was taken, but my guess would be that this is JFK when he was a Senator running for president, rather than after his election. The photographer was a stringer who would have been far more likely to have access to him on a plane during the run-up to the election, rather than a staff photographer who might have accompanied him on a later trip. I love the image. It's charming and intimate, and also casual and everyday, with what looks like a member of the cockpit crew in the background. Photo is in an 7.5 x 9.5 inch photo opening in a 11 x 14 mat. It still has the plastic around it that it had in the gallery. I have carefully cut the side of the plastic in order to peel it back and photograph the image. There are some dings to the mat board, as shown in photos, but a frame would likely cover that. You may also wish to remat it before framing. What a great gift this would make -- certainly something the recipient will not already own! I will ship as soon as I receive payment.
