Description: I purchased these Gettysburg Relics from Andy Keyser June 5, 2012. Andy is a long time relic hunter and collector. He recovered this lead relic and two case shot on the East Cavalry Field, at Gettysburg in the 1980's. They were found on private property with permission, on the famous Rummel Farm. They were found west or northwest of the Rummel House, in an area close to the modern day Confederate Cavalry Avenue. Andy believes the lead relic could be a part of the plug from a Confederate side loader shell. I will include a hand signed letter by Andy describing the provenance for these pieces. It was at the East Cavalry Field on July 3, 1863 that General George Custer and the Michigan Cavalry Brigade fought Confederate Cavalry General Jeb Stuart. Stuart was attempting the attack the Union Rear in conjunction with an attack of the Union Front by Confederate General George Pickett. Fortunately Custer and his men were able to stop Stuart. If they hadn't, the outcome of the Gettysburg Battle could have have been much different. My Uncle Henry McKinstry served with the 5th Michigan Cavalry Regiment and fought with Custer on July 3, 1863. I have been collecting relics from the East Cavalry Field for many years now, but have recently decided to sell a few pieces. These relics will enhance your Civil War Collection. They are special in that they have excellent provenance and are associated with General George Custer and the Michigan Cavalry Brigade. Photo of Custer not included.
