Description: Here we have a stunning, over-the-top, Victorian-era handled cake plate from JPL Limoges/Jean Pouyat (France) in excellent-plus to near-mint condition. Scalloped edge with heavy gold that has been topped with tiny hand-enameled orange and pastel green floral sprays. Spectacular art nouveau border starring rosy-pink poppies with the unusual use of cobalt blue in the swags, which is overlaid on fields of green daisies and stylized stands of rust-colored poppies. Sprays of vining pink flowers with minty leaves float out of the border in four areas. It even includes the original paper label on back. Please enlarge and zoom in them to view the condition for yourself. Very clean and fresh, bright and shiny piece in excellent-plus to near-mint antique condition. No cracks, chips, silver/gray utensil marks, stains or crazing. Gold is 99.5% present, with the occasional tiny rub visible only upon very, very close inspection. Enamel on edge is missing from one petal; otherwise fully present. The floral sprays have a few worn spots, or possibly just painter's errors, that are also noticeable upon very, very close inspection. Center has a handful of scattered, tiny, very light, completely colorless, scratches to the glaze can be seen when the piece is held up at just the right angle to a direct source of light. Overall, a gorgeous piece in remarkable condition for its age.We consider funky odors (cigarette smoke, mildew, etc) to be an important part of a condition report.
