The tip of the blade features a Kiriha Zukuri Triangle tip shape. It is medium with a well defined Yokote. The blade is full tang and sharp. This Ninjato has been designed specifically to endure the rigors of Tameshigiri. It is light weight and very quick, when combined with the perfectly shaped tsuka the result is a sword that is extremely responsive and agile. The blade of the sword has been constructed from T10 steel in a Maru Lamination. In accordance with Japanese tradition, the blade has been treated with a clay covering, applied to the entire sword except the cutting edge. The blade is then heated and quenched in spring water. The combination of the quenching and the clay cover creates a significant temperature difference in the Ha of the blade and the rest of the sword. The hamon is authentic and all the way up to the tip. The Saya is hardwood in sparkle matt black finish. A black Sageo is tied around the bright copper Kurigata. The tsuba (guard) is handmade Japanese Phoenix made of iron. The tsuka handle is hardwood with black ray skin samekawa tied by black ito wrap and a black dragon menuki on both sides. This Ninjato is well suited for Tamashigiri and other forms of cutting exercises done by those with proper training and supervision. A beautiful silk travel bag is included with this Ninjato. Clay Tempering Illustration Of Blade Construction: Please view above picture A This sword has been hand forged by our Japanese traditional method, Clay Tempering. The gray area is the clay covered range. The Smith puts clay on the blade and leaves the edge clear. The blade will be heated to red then quenched into water. Therefore, the clay covered area helps the blade to keep its flexibility. The crystal clear natural hamon line is achieved from clay tempering.
