Examples of his work are in museums across the world. The censer is of small size which makes the work even more outstandingTakahara Komajiro was a Kyoto-based enameller who opened his own studio in 1894. He won a bronze medal at the 1904 St Louis International Exhibition. Writing in ‘Japanese Art and Artists of Today – VI. Cloisonné Enamels; from The Studio, June 1911’ Professor Harada Jirō mentions that Takahara was an artist ‘of some note… who has recently made some considerable improvements in the ware’.The work on the base is in some ways even more intricate than the top mainly viewed side.
