Description: An antique Japanese hand carved wood advertising sign for a shop that sold "Miso (paste) and Shoyu" (Soy sauce) It's one piece of solid zelkova hard wood. ("Keyaki" in Japanese) This a wood known for its durability and the beauty of its wood grain. The writing is carved into the wood with the central emblem coated with black lacquer. The two vertical brackets in the back are common with Japanese wood signs. They're dove tailed in and help maintain the sign as a flat surface.The left bracket has the shop name.The right side has the date when this sign was made Taisho 13, 2nd month. (February 1924) It's 35 3/4 inches wide, 23 5/8 inches high, 1 inch thick and weighs 13 pounds.
