Description: For offer, a Victorian period, silver plated saddle sandwich tin & leather case, by 'James Dixon & Sons' of Sheffield. Makers mark and design number embossed internally. The first use of the famous ‘James Dixon’ Trumpet or Bugle and banner corporate mark, was in 1879, and was used pretty much right through their period of production, especially on silver plated wares, to clearly identify ‘James Dixon & Sons’, as this piece does not have this mark, it must be pre 1879 in age. This piece is showing its age somewhat, with some plating loss to the external surface of the tin, but no loss to the internal surfaces, the hinge is good and solid, the Chestnut brown leather case is supple, with some loose stitching to the lower rear seam, and cracking to the securing strap, the securing strap stud is rusted.
