Description: James Christensen - Copa de Oro - Rare Original Lithograph We're fortunate to have had access to many of James Christensen's early works. Prior to being published by Greenwich Workshop, he produced several etchings/original lithographs that he sold at shows. Up for auction is the extremely rare original lithograph produced in the 80's - "Copa de Oro" (Gold Cup). This mint condition piece was framed using conservation materials and is #8 of the low edition size of 10. The framed size is 18" x 21.5" and the image size is 7 5/8" x 10 7/8". Current online selling prices are up to $3,400. Piece was originally purchased from and framed by Howard Mandvville Gallery in Kirkland, WA. What is an Original Lithograph? Well, really rare to begin with. An original lithograph is when the artist creates the work of art on a stone plate. The word "lithograph" means, "stone print". Lithography works on the simple physical principal that oil and water do not mix. This technique was first used around 1798. Limestone is the most common surface to work on. In reality the word lithograph today is used incorrectly. We should be using 'photo offset' when referencing the majority of today's art prints to be technically correct. True original lithographs are painstakingly, labor intensive work. Which is why they are normally comprised of small editions. Each is an originally, slightly different from the other and Wherein modern lithographs (photo offset prints) are identical. Check the link in my bio for all currently active auctions.
