Jaime Bellechasse was a Cuban artist who studied but did not graduate from the San Alejandro Academy in Havana. In 1964, he became part of the Espacio Group led by Lolo Soldevilla, a prominent figure in the Cuban abstraction movement. Despite having a coherent and solid body of work that explored figurative, abstract, expressionistic, and optical art, his image and work were largely unknown in the art world. He was stigmatized by the powers that be due to his sexual and political preferences. His skillful drawing, balanced forms and color, and impeccable illustrations remain as evidence of a creative maturity that was ignored by the context in which he lived. Jaime Bellechasse, artista cubano que cursó estudios sin concluir en la Academia de San Alejandro, en la Habana. En 1964 forma parte del Grupo Espacio lidereado por Lolo Soldevilla, figura insigne del movimiento de abstracción en Cuba. Su imagen y obra fueron desconocidas en el escenario artístico, fue estigmatizado por los órganos de poder debido a sus preferencias sexuales y políticas; a pesar de poseer una obra coherente y sólida que transitó por las líneas de la figuración, abstracción, expresionismo y arte óptico. Solidez en el dibujo, equilibrio de formas y color, ilustraciones impecables quedaron inertes para hoy constituir las pruebas fehacientes de una madurez creativa ignorada por el contexto que le tocó vivir. Fue un hombre culto, escritor, que supo eludir las miserias de su tiempo refugiado en la mayor de las dádivas; el arte.
