Other vintage golf signatures include: Dave Ragan (d. 2018), Ken Venturi (d. 2013), Chi Chi Rodriguez, Walter Burkemo (member of Michigan Sports Hall of Fame and Michigan Golf Hall of Fame d.1986), Mike Souchak (d. 2008), Al Besselink (signed on front - d. 2017) and tournament winner Bobby Nichols.Two guest signers include NFL football greats who playing for the Detroit Lions at the time, quarterbacks Milt Plum and Earl Morrall. In an exciting finish, Bobby Nichols shot a closing 72 to edge Arnold Palmer by a stroke to win the tournament. Historically, this Carling World Open was the last incarnation in a series of golf tournaments on the PGA Tour sponsored by the Carling Brewing Company beginning in 1953.
