Collect or Throw? Tough decision here. More on Moondust Plastic: If Metal Flake and Luster plastic conceived a baby while in orbit, these gorgeous MoonDust discs would be the result. With both Metal Flakes and microscopic MoonDust, these discs have a rare gem like appearance. More about this offering: Over the years, scores of discs have been released by dozens of manufacturers, but few have stood the test of time like the, or had the popularity of the Firebird. This disc is just as relevant now as when it was released. Why not celebrate that along with another milestone, the USDGCβs 25 years of innovation and incredible disc golf action. Disc Information: The Innova Firebird is the first βvery overstableβ disc that developing disc golfers should get. This disc will provide a massive fading hook, but itβs not so fast that it canβt be controlled by less powerful players. The Firebird makes a great forehand driver and can easily handle headwinds. This disc is consistently chosen and rated as one of the best discs for sidearm throws. Manufacturer Flight Numbers 9.0/3.0/0.0/4.0 Reviewer Flight Numbers 9.0 / 3.0 / 0.0 / 4.0 Pricing N/A. I opted for Champion plastic to increase its overstability as much as possible and increase its skip potential and both work as intended. If you need a disc to turn a corner or get you out of a jam by throwing a flex shot, this is the one. There's a reason everyone uses 'em...join in! Luke1000 Luke1000 (Review Enthusiast, L4, Intermediate) My Flight Ratings: 9/4/-1/4 Neutral Throwing Distance: N/A Straight Score: N/A Dec 20, 2023 07:11 AM I have the "Firebread" stamp which I think is hilarious. I ordered two, both 173-175g. They are significantly less stable than some other firebirds that I have thrown and have quite a bit more of a shoulder dome. I still love these for both forehand and backhand, and can get a bit of turn and still that reliable firebird fade. This disc is my go to for 240-275 forehand shots and 280 backhand where I need a really reliable fade at the end. One of the most thrown discs in my bag and even with this oddly understable run I will always still bag them. I did purchase a very flat draco to be my absoulte meakhook though. I highly reccomend the firebird for people trying to nail down a reliable forehand distance. This is really just a big boy zone in many ways. Have a fairly beat-in firebird that I love for driving off the tee, feels very nice coming out of the hand and not too high of speed connor gortsema connor gortsema (Reviewer Class 5, Advanced) My Flight Ratings: 9/3/0/4 Not Beginner Friendly Throwing Distance: N/A Straight Score: N/A Mar 05, 2023 18:20 PM My first disc (started as a sidearm dominant player). This disc has almost always been in my bag or something comparable (Felon when i tried Trilogy, Flick before the hellfire and raptor were made). A true staple and keystone (Ha! Disc golf puns) in any players bag. I bought mine from a gas station and fell in love. This was one of my first discs that was recommended to me as I am mainly a forehand player. This has a very predictable flight path and is repeatable time after time again. I have found that this disc is extremely versatile and is one of my main discs to play with in the wind as it can fight the crosswinds quite well. I have recently gotten a Nate Sexton firebird and love it just as much as my champion firebird. I have recommended this disc for anyone that has asked for forehand/windy-day discs. brandon haynes brandon haynes (Review Participant, L2, Advanced) My Flight Ratings: 9/3/0/4 Neutral Throwing Distance: N/A Straight Score: N/A Jan 22, 2023 14:23 PM A perfect disc. I've had 5 firebirds. 3 champs, 1 star (lost), and a sexybird. I bag two currently, a red champ and the sexton. My red max weight champ firebird is my favorite and I use it every round. The sexton is less overstable and used when I want less skip or fade (probably 15% of the time). I use them both forehand and backhand. This is not a disc I would give to a beginner because it can reinforce bad habits and poor technique. I suggest learning backhand with a putter (or roc/other neutral midrange) and forehand with a buzzz. Once you have decent form (not even crazy distance, just clean form), getting a firebird because, as you learn it, you unlock so many cool and useful shots. Dog legs, spike hyzers, skip shots, overhand, wind brawlers, flick rollers, etc. I'm primarily a RHBH player but one of the most valuable shots in my arsenal is a standstill or one-step 150-275 ft RHFH firebird. (Max FH golf-line with a destroyer is 350') People don't talk about it but this disc is also an invaluable tool in the woods. Pair it with a understable fairways for that but pair the two together and you're golden flippier driver and you're set. Many wooded courses have several holes that have baskets off to one side or the other with a small gap to hit. Enter firebird. Throw it FH or BH depending on the basket position and not worry that it will turn over and deviate from the line and just let it fade to the basket for a simple putt. If I could only have 4 discs, it'd be my yeti aviar, dx roc, star destroyer and innova firebird. Kidding... obviously this disc is legendary, and it'll probably always be considered one of the greatest if not THE greatest overstable control driver in Disc Golf History. I definitely tried to not have a Firebird in my bag, but it's definitely nice to have... not to say other stuff on the market isn't good! I'd be more than happy to pick up an FD3 and try that out in comparison. Regardless, this is one of the greats, and if you haven't tried one, can you even be considered a true disc golfer? Maybe you can... just not by Nate Sexton :P
