Description: Before typewriters and ball point pens, ink wells were used. Old paper did not absorb ink so they would sprinkle the ink with sand using the shaker. This would absorb the ink and keep it from smearing. Please see photos. One of the small flowers has a small chip. Some of the gold colored trim has come off. I can’t confirm thats it’s “gold” trim.
