Description: We are offering this Spectacular Indian (Mughal Empire?) Royal Figures and Animals in Landscape. It is an Original Handmade Gouache on Silk and is tipped in (mounted by corners only) onto a fold-over paper mat (see 2nd to last image). We believe it is from the late 20th C. Depicted is a Colorful Royal Procession, apparently marching into their home palace, with the Maharajah (Sanskrit for 'great ruler') atop a resplendent elephant. The palace is beautifully detailed and there seems to be a floating 'city' on the water, at top right. Lovely Floral border. Gouache makes for rich colors (ground precious and semi-precious stones are used among other natural materials) but there is something additional in certain areas (the yellow seat and decoration on the elephant, spear tips, flag borders, etc.) that are reflective. It is also used in the floral border. It gives the piece even more depth and visual interest. Though only a paper mat (fold-over variety) it has maintained it's condition wonderfully.Image opening measures 7 7/8 X 9 5/8 and is in Very Good to Excellent condition.Outside of mat measures 11 X 14 and is in Good condition.Please carefully examine all images for condition.
