Description: An original drypoint etching by the well regarded Swiss printmaker Rodolphe Piguet (1840-1915). It is a lovely example of continental Belle Epoque drypoint and is titled "Portrait de Madame de Landry lisant", the plate was executed by Piguet about 1902 and it appears to be a preliminary study for his print "Au Jardin". Examples of both of these prints are in the collection of the Musée d’art et d'histoire de Geneve, for comparison, I'll provide their urls below. This etching is printed in black ink on cream colored watermarked Arches wove paper, the plate measures 9 1/2 x 6 1/8 inches, sheet size is approx. 12 x 8 3/4 inches with two deckel edges. Signed in the plate, but the artist's name on the reverse seems to be in Piguet's hand and may be a pencil signature. Very fine condition, some specks and color toning to the reverse. https://collections.geneve.ch/mah/oeuvre/portrait-de-madame-de-landry-lisant/e-2020-0131 https://collections.geneve.ch/mah/oeuvre/au-jardin/e-2020-0132 Rodolphe Piguet was a French/Swiss printmaker and painter, born February 6, 1840 in Génève and died October 17, 1915 in the same city.
