While at Ward, he served in Engineering, designing and styling the "Firebrand" and Ultra-Vision" units, moving through sales engineering to Sales Manager, where he was responsible for developing a national sales dealer network. Then to Vice-President Sales where is credited for selling the first Lime yellow apparatus to Executive Vice President an then to the Presidency, negotiating an $18.4 million contract with the Royal Kingdom of Morocco. While serving as President designed and styled the "Patriot" Gergel became a member of America's Young Presidents Club at age 39. He also served in industry associations, FAMA (Fire Apparatus Manufacturers Association) and FEMSA (Fire & Emergency Manufacturers & Service Association), and most currently is a member of SPAAMFAA (Society for the Preservation and Appreciation of Antique Motor Fire Apparatus).
