The MARU SPECIAL series was published in the 1970s and 1980s and each of the 135 volumes focused on a naval vessel, family of vessels, or campaign, most dealing with the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN). They offered a very popular combination of period photographs (some with rare detail not often seen in the West), line drawings, and affordability. Printed with Japanese text, the difficulty of translation was compensated for by their superb level of visual detail. The MARU SPECIALS remain very popular with naval historians and advanced military modelers, and these out-of-print gems remain frequently referenced. This particular MARU SPECIAL focuses on Submarine Tenders of the IJN and features the following vessels: Tsurugizaki; Taigei; Chogei; Jingei; Komahashi; and Karasaki.
