The Galaxy dress was introduced in 2005 and was reissued nearly 17 years after it was first introduced. It was the look for women who wanted to look sexy yet classic, and was worn by everyone from Halle Barry and Naomi Watts to Dita Von Teese, Victoria Beckham, Nicole Kidman, Cameron Diaz, Rachel Weisz and Sienna Miller. The dress is made of a beautiful wool crepe that holds it's shape well. Underneath the fabric was an elasticised mesh underlay called Powerflex (used in corsets in the 1950s) which was the secret to the shaping of the dress. With darts at the bust and waist, it was able to pull in the waist, push up the boobs and suck in the bottom and hips. The sleeves with the folded detail at the shoulder also added width to the shoulder line and helped to create (on any woman), a perfect hourglass shape. The sleeves also feature an arm hole large enough that it makes the arm look slim. The neckline itself is another important feature of the dress, with the square that creates a frame emphasising the décolletage and drawing the eye up the neck to the face. The length of the dress is almost universally flattering too, covering the knees. But of the dress's success, Mouret said that it was due to magic. "I’m the magician. I know my tricks. What I mean is we are all perfectly imperfect. I’m not scared of curves. I really love skin. I like to understand gravity and glamour.” “A big breakthrough for me was when I started to understand bras. The back of the dress is solid so you can conceal any underwear you want.” It's certainly a beautiful dress, and I would love to try one on myself to experience a bit of that 'magic'! What about you?
