Description: IF YOU ARE ON THE FENCE ABOUT BUYING FROM US, CHECK OUT OUR REVIEWS!!! 100% POSITIVE FEED BACK AND EXCELLENT FERTILITY! WE TEST OUR FERTILITY WEEKLY. MOST ORDERS SHIP WITHIN 3 BUSINESS DAYS. IF THERE IS A CONCERN ABOUT WHEN YOUR EGGS WILL SHIP AND WOULD LIKE AN ESTIMATED SHIP DATE, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO MESSAGE ME PRIOR TO ORDERING! This listing is for 1 dozen purebred Icelandic hatching eggs. Our flock represents a mix of 4 of the 5 lines that have been imported into the United States. We have Hlesey, Husatoftir, Belh (Kolsholt) and Sigrid (Sigrid/Steiner II). The lines are named after the importer/farm they came from. We have no other chickens on our homestead and our closest neighbors with chickens are 4.5 miles away so there is absolutely no chance of accidental cross breeding. You can be sure that what you are getting is 100% pure Icelandic. Be aware that alot of people try to pass off "barnyard mixes" as Icelandics. Once ordered I start collecting to ensure you get the freshest eggs possible for incubation. If you are wanting your hatching eggs mailed on a certain date, please include the date in the comments or send me a message. If you are wanting to purchase a larger quantity than 2 dozen eggs, please message me before doing so. Eggs are in bubble wrap in the carton, then that box is wrapped in bubble wrap and placed inside the exterior shipping box with lots of shredded paper around each side to cushion the eggs. Double boxing and wrapping this way, we have had great success with eggs arriving safely and in one piece. I ship priority mail so you should have your eggs within 3 days from the shipping date however, I DO NOT CONTROL USPS. Once the eggs leave my hands I have no control over shipping delays. USPS will not guarantee that they arrive within 3 days even when shipped Priority Mail. If you would like your eggs shipped with Priority Mail Express so you have a 2 day guarantee with USPS then I would be glad to mail them that way but shipping that way costs an additional $35-45 on average to the lower 48 states. I try my absolute best to get the eggs to my customers as quick as possible but I really cannot control USPS and shipping delays. The buyer is at their mercy. When you receive your shipping confirmation, it is a good idea to get your incubator up and running ahead of time so you can make sure your parameters are correct. When you receive your eggs in the mail, be sure to let them rest with the pointy end of the eggs down for 24 hours. This let's the air cell reattach itself in the correct position after being jostled around in shipping. Chicken eggs begin to drop their fertility at 7-10 days so it is important to place your eggs in the incubator ASAP after you have let them rest for the 24 hour period for best hatch results. Due to a number of factors that are out of my control after the eggs leave my hands like incubation temps, humidity levels, handling in shipping, power outages, etc. I cannot guarantee your hatch rates. But I can say, we run our incubator constantly in the summer months here at our homestead and we average 90% hatch rates with our Icelandic eggs. I do my best to try to include one or two extra eggs in your shipment when extras are available. Eggs shipped in Kansas. ABOUT ICELANDICS Icelandic chickens are hardy in many different climates, incredibly thrifty and make excellent farm and ranch birds. These birds are the best free rangers we have ever had. They are a land race and are extremely rare outside of their native home of Iceland. They were brought to the island with the Norse settlers in 9th century and remained the only chickens in the country for more than 1,000 years. They were raised with virtually no inputs from man. These chickens were expected to fend for them selves. Survival of the fittest is what has given this breed the reputation for being the perfect homestead chicken. They wont pass up a free meal but they are perfectly happy to fend for themselves. From Spring to Fall we barely feed our "Icies" anything. In the 1950s Icelandic chickens were nearly extinct. In the 1970s a small pure flock was discovered and saved. A few years ago there was estimated to only be about 5000 pure Icelandics alive. Icelandics are great layers of medium-large cream white eggs. The hens are also very broody and excellent mothers, traits that are hard to come by in almost all breeds today. They are calm and docile but still very alert to danger or anything out of place. Being a landrace breed, Icelandics are not standardized like most chicken breeds you are used to. They have a wide range of colors, patters and comb types. Icelandics have proven by genetic analysis to be extremely diverse genetically. Most modern chicken breeds have an inbreeding factor of 12% on average. A study done by blood sample in 2004 showed that Icelandic DNA is 78% unique to only the Icelandic chicken and can not be found in any other chicken breeds in the world.
