Description: I Brake for Clouds by Dian Cunningham Parrotta Cloud watching is in danger of becoming a lost art form like the old silent movies, remembering Charlie Chaplin, the sweet little man with a bowler hat, mustache, and cane, or those magical characters of pantomime in extravagant costumes performing in silence just like how cloud formations variously resemble whales, or angel statues, or airy, floating pavlovas topped with whipped cream, or white perennial gardens in bloom with bleached roses, or floating eider male ducks, or spirit bears, those rare American black bears, in the sky floating next to five sheep grazing in a sky pasture of swelling cumulus medium clouds detached with small cloud fragments coasting by all who sprang from beams of luster from our heavenly, celestial walls. I Brake for Clouds is a cloud-watching book reminding us to look up at our sky like looking through an ancient kaleidoscope, observing architectural patterns and combinations, calling forth memories of something so unexpected, making pareidolia hard at work. The skys endless formations can be captured in paintings, videos, or within the lines of poetry, and as any cloud spotter will agree, you can never drink too much from our skies. FORMAT Hardcover LANGUAGE English CONDITION Brand New Author Biography Dian Cunningham Parrotta was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She lives in Falls Church City, Virginia, where she is employed at Fairfax County Public schools and the Northern Virginia Literacy Council. I Brake for Clouds is her fourth poetry book, which will be published in 2020 soon after having received her MFA in Writing from Lindenwood University in 2019. She dreams to retire to Europe and travel on her Irish passport within the next year to finally roam around her beloved grandfathers winding rivers and green landscapes of his Eire, Republic of Ireland, and to of course go over to Naples, Italy, where her Great-Grandma Mary Trotta, used to live. Then that is not all! This poet wishes to drop in on her two sons, who live and work in Prague and Madrid, respectively. Review "A champion of child-like wonder, Dian Parrotta, in I Brake for Clouds, fashions poems out of thin air. Metaphors, fresh and lucid, pop and delight: clouds are fish scales, ziggurats, and nosegays. Parrottas imagination ranges from oceans filled with eons-old trilobites to lengths of modern conduit over our shared sky. She revels in the reveal of beauty and danger that clouds--those co-conspirators of weather--can bring. Her verse flows, rich with heady diction, and the overall effect feels otherworldly. A bold collection of new work. Brava!" --Terri White, author of "To Tell" and other short stories Long Description Cloud watching is in danger of becoming a lost art form like the old silent movies, remembering Charlie Chaplin, the sweet little man with a bowler hat, mustache, and cane, or those magical characters of pantomime in extravagant costumes performing in silence just like how cloud formations variously resemble whales, or angel statues, or airy, floating pavlovas topped with whipped cream, or white perennial gardens in bloom with bleached roses, or floating eider male ducks, or spirit bears, those rare American black bears, in the sky floating next to five sheep grazing in a sky pasture of swelling cumulus medium clouds detached with small cloud fragments coasting by all who sprang from beams of luster from our heavenly, celestial walls.
