Huntington is the County Seat and General Tipton was the original proprietor of the land in which Captain Murray was one of the first settlers; by 1849 it contained 150 houses and had a population of 700. The Wabash & Erie Canal cut through our county in 1834 and was a major economic factor in european settlement and early development.
