Description: In 1932, A.T. Blades founded Preston Trucking Co. in Preston, MD. Preston operated 151 pieces of equipment in the late 30's and thus became " The 151 Line." Over the next 30 years, Preston supplied service to The District of Columbia, CT, DE, MD, MA , NY, NJ, OH, PA, RI, and VA. They operated 34 terminals with 300 tractors and 600 trailers which included doubles,reefers, flats, and open tops. In the 70's Preston acquired American Transfer & Storage,SDZ, and Shipper's Dispatch. By 1979, revenues grew to 160 million and Preston was now operating 1573 tractors and 3487 trailers out of 56 terminals! In 1984 Preston was included in a book "The 100 Best Companies To Work For In America" The back doors of some of their trailers brandished the words "Preston People, Making The Difference", which represented the companies good sense of teamwork. A bad fire struck the preston terminal in 1988, and 8 months later an entire new building was completed at a price of 1.4 million dollars! By 1990, Preston's revenues now reached over 400 million! they were now operating 3015 tractors and 8233 trailers out of its 90 terminals and had become the 8th largest LTL motor carrier in the USA!
