Description: HIDE YO CHILDREN, this beast ammonite is on the loose and its tentacles have a long reach! What a monster..I found this 12-inch diameter mortoniceras ammonite in a Fort Worth formation exposure west of the Chisolm Trail toll road and highway 1187, Johnson County, Texas. I cleaned it with a dremel 290, which took several hours, as well as epoxy and paint mixed with finely crushed limestone to repair one section that broke off (repaired cracks visible in photos). Lots of smaller fossils and some worm tubes remain on this fossil. Its estimated age of 90-100 million years old places it in the age of dinosaurs, when a vast sea known as the western interior seaway covered the middle of the North American continent. Please review all photos prior to purchase! 12” diameter Approx 16 lb, 10 ounces Stand is NOT included with this purchase. Some info about my pricing: I typically sell unprepped mortoniceras ammonites to dealers for $7/inch. A nice prepped mortoniceras can go for as much as $20 per inch for larger ones. You’ll see some of my ammonites far cheaper than $7 per inch, usually due to how worn down or damaged the ammonite might be. I still want those ammonites to be good VALUE for the buyer.
