Description: This listing is for a beautiful handcrafted vintage black clay pottery cat/kitty/kitten made in Oaxaca Mexico. This work of art was made by the famous artisan potter Dona Rosa (Rosa Real Mateo de Nieto) who invented the technique to make the local barro negro pottery black and shiny after firing which created a new market that appealed to both tourists and collectors. (Even Nelson Rockefeller was a collector who promoted it in the United States). The cat is about 4 5/8" tall and is signed on the bottom. It is in very nice condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs that we can detect. There are some small spots or scuffs/scratches mostly around the base of the piece, however these are not overly obvious and do not detract from the overall great look of the figurine when it is on display. (See last two photos). Any white shiny spots are glare from the camera. A very special and hard to find vintage piece of art to add to your collection! Thanks for looking!
