Volkmann’, appears printed lower-left in the image corner. Publisher/Printer & Chromolitho Info: The publisher info, location & inventory number, ‘R. Voigtländers Verlag in Leipzig. Nr. 189’, appears printed lower-left in the bottom outer margin corner; The title (in English, German & French) along with artist’s name, ‘Sunset Hans von Volkmann: Letzter Sonnengruß Soleil Couchant’, appears lower-middle; and the Printer’s name & location, ‘Kunstdruckerei Künstlerbund Karlsruhe G.M.B.H.’ (Translates: Art Printing Artist Association Karlsruhe, G.M.B.H. [G.m.b.H.= Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung/ Limited liability company]), appears lower-right respectively. The publisher’s stylized Trademark logo with his initials ‘RV’ (‘R’ on top of ‘V’) inside an upside-down triangle, appears lower-right in the image corner. The Chromolitho is on a nice heavier-weight ivory-colored wove paper stock. You can read a brief biography on the R. Voigtländer publishing company below. Brief Publisher Bio: Robert Voigtländer, Germany (German Publisher, 1847-1945) AKA R. Voigtländer Verlag was founded on September 20, 1847 in Bad Kreuznach, Germany by bookseller, publisher, printer & writer, Fürchtegott Leberecht Robert Voigtländer (1821-1887) where he mainly published regional literature as well as some of his own publications. He later acquired the Pütz Druckerei (Putz Printing Works) in 1867 and by 1874, Voigtlanders son, Robert Voigtländer (1849-1935) joined the family business and soon became a shareholder in 1876. On December 24, 1876 parts of the business were sold to Georg Barth, namely the publication of the daily Kreuznacher Tageblatt (Kreuznach Daily Journal) as well as the company Bookstore in Kreuznach. From 1883, his son, Robert had created a youth literature department with well-known authors within the publishing house, but soon sold it to Carl Geibel and Dr. Arnold Brockhaus, who formed their own company. Robert continued to expand his schoolbooks and other affiliated educational books as well as expanded other areas of their publishing with careful selection that brought much success to the company. In 1885, Robert Voigtländer’s brother Karl also joined his father’s company. The father died in 1886 and within a couple years, his son Robert relocated the firm to Leipzig in 1888. The company soon became well-known for its high-quality books and especially its chromolithographs ‘Farbigen Künstler-Steinzeichnungen’ (Colored Artists’ Stone Drawings) that were marketed inexpensively and sold to the general public as ‘Künstlerischen Wandschmucks’ (Artistic Wall Decorations) which were very popular and garnered the firm much fame at the turn of the 20th century. In 1901, Robert Voigtländer (1849-1935) joined the Kunstdruckerei Künstlerbund Karlsruhe (Art Printers Artist’s Alliance Kunstlerbund Karlsruhe, [KKK]) along with the other well-known printing house of B.G. Teubner (German Publishers, 1811-2008) under contract for the publication and distribution of artistic Schnellpressenfabrik (Quick Press Factory) Printing. In the following years, the two publishers brought in around 400 lithographs with a minimum quantity of 1,000 each. They were offered at a price of 1-6 RM (Reichsmark) and reprints, as well as signed copies, cost 30-40 RM. By selling through the two publishers, members of the KKK were given opportunities to have exhibitions, various publications printed and most importantly, sales of their artwork. Exclusive hand-pulled and autographed prints were still manufactured and sold by the art printing facility in Karlsruhe. Eventually, Robert’s son Otto Voigtländer (1882-1931) joined the family business and later partnered with his father, becoming director of the firm in 1931, but sadly passed away that same year. After Robert’s Voigtländer’s death in 1935, parts of the business were sold off to Koehler & Amelang in Leipzig, and from circa 1940, the firm was known as Koehler & Voigtländer which managed to survive during WWII, but ceased operations in 1945 at the end of the war. (Compiled & written by Mark Strong of Meibohm Fine Arts, Inc., East Aurora, NY) Size & Condition: The size with margins is 22-3/4” x 30-3/4”, Image size is 21-7/8” x 29-3/4”. The Chromolitho is in VeryGood-Excellent Rare+ condition for its antique age with absolutely no color fade at all on this wonderful piece—wonderful vibrant, fresh, rich color & tones! This Chromolitho has been in a drawer amongst other prints since it was purchased by the Meibohm family and hasn’t seen the light-of-day in all this time…It’s as beautiful as the day it was printed and is as ‘Mint’ as any collector could hope to find in its original never-framed condition, simply stunning & will look beautiful all framed-up! No tears! Slight overall tiny & faint foxing specks scattered here & there across the entire sheet which are mostly only lightly noticeable in the outer margin areas (not really noticeable in image area unless you hunt for them in the light sky area, as they blend in well with the ink-coverage) and the outer margin areas can easily be matted out. Extremely minimal & very slight small crescent-creases scattered here & there in the image area which aren’t even noticeable (except very lightly from behind) and aren’t worth mentioning. Other minimal & slight creasing here & there in the outer margins and a couple tiny dog-ear bends in a couple outer margin corners—all outer margin issues are completely negligible since they can easily be matted & framed out. Negligible/no significant toning of the paper stock from age noticeable, especially amidst the ivory color of the paper stock itself. This rare chromolitho has never been framed which is always more desirable to collectors since it has never been exposed to older non-archival materials, matburn or lightfade. What a beauty! EMAILING US: eBayers, at all costs, please use eBay's email system only (no outside email addresses) with any questions you may have. eBay's email system GUARANTEES we get your email and more importantly, that you get ours. A lot of servers in the last few years have started using newer SPAM filters, and there have been a lot of problems with GOOD emails not getting through correctly, and being returned as undeliverable. We have had numerous problems in the past communicating with our eBayers outside of eBay because of it. COLLECTORS & DEALERS: Please DO NOT email us (inside or outside of eBay's email system) with any offers to stop an auction early. It would not be fair to the rest of the eBay Worldwide community if we did that. THE HIGHEST BIDDER -OR- HIGHEST OFFER WINS IT!!!!! Thank you from the Staff at Meibohm Fine Arts, GOOD LUCK & HAPPY BIDDING!!!
