Description: HOPI CRADLE KACHINA DOLL"Hoho Mana" 6.75" x 3.75" Hoho Mana: Hopi Kachina Maiden identifiable by blackface, white cog wheels for eyes, red tab ears and feathers. This Cradle Doll is signed ML and dated '96. This Cradle Doll is in pristine condition. I purchased it at an Estate Sale of a Native American Indian Collector. These "Cradle Dolls" were given to Hopi infants, the very oldest form of Kachina Dolls among the Hopi. They are carved from the Cottonwood root. They are flat on the back, to be hung on the wall. They were given to children during ceremonies and were not toys to be played with. They were made with a flat back to be hung on the wall and studied by children . These Cradle Dolls were made in the image of Spirits worshipped by the tribe They were considered "icons" to celebrate and contemplate.
