Puyallup, WA Territory, price $1.50. The next year New York State legislative senator Henry J. Coggeshall gave this book to one of his constituates, Clayton E. Risley, Hamilton, N.Y. N.Y. State had a pretty substantial hop industry at the time. The second owner was my grandpa, who used his address stamp in the book in at least three places. He was a WA State hop farmer. This book was entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1883 by E. Meeker, in the Clerk's Office of the Librarian of Congress. It has exhaustive records of hop production figures from European countries as well as the U.S.It weighs .90 lb., is 5 5/8" wide, 8 1/4" tall and 5/8" thick. It has 170 pages. The covers and spine cover are a green cloth. Inside front cover are the names and addresses of two owners and the label: "Compliments of Henry J. Coggeshall, Senator, 22d District, N.Y. 1884-1885. He continued to serve as a State senator through 1900. There is a good chance that my grandpa bought this a the Shorey Book Store in Seattle. Opposite of the title page with a page of onion paper in between is a handsome print of a Hop Picking Party in Germany, E. Sears P.C. NY. Buyer pays 6.00 for media mail.
