Description: Hong Kong Illustrated, News and Views 1840 - 1890 Compiled by John Warner A compilation of news and a reproduction of the wood engravings used to print illustrations as printed in the British Popular Press in the fifty years between 1842 and 1892. They were published to illustrate newsworthy events related to Hong Kong and printed alongside contemporary reports. Many were based on drawings made on the spot by the newspapers' special artists, others were provided by local artists and officers serving in the British Army and Navy. In the second half of the period the engravings were increasingly based on photographs.What began as a casual imterest, developed into a search and an obsession and finally became a book, Soft cover.
