Description: Honesdale is a borough in and the county seat of Wayne County, Pennsylvania with a population of 4,458 at the time of the 2020 census. It is located 32 miles northeast of Scranton, located in a coal mining region. During the nineteenth century, it was the starting point of the Delaware and Hudson Canal, which provided for transport of coal to Kingston, New York, and then down the Hudson River to New York City. In the 19th century, the expansion of railroads eventually superseded regular use of the canal. Honesdale, originally called “Dyberry Forks” was laid out as a village in 1829 when the canal was created. It was incorporated as a borough in 1831. The Presbyterians were the pioneer church organizers in Honesdale, beginning to hold meetings in the “Old Tabernacle”, a log cabin structure located at the confluence of the Dyberry and Lackawaxen Rivers. The original church structure was a wooden structure erected in 1837 at “Church and Tenth Streets”, the same location as the present edifice. A new brick church was constructed and dedicated in 1868. I am assuming that it is the same “Presbyterian Church and Manse” in Honesdale that is on this card, published by the “Mailing Card Co., Hawley Pa”. The card is a UDB, postmarked 1905 and is in good condition with minor wear and a clean, clear image and reverse. The colors on the card may vary due to the scanner settings and screen projections.Unless otherwise noted, I use Wikipedia, Playle's and Metropostcard for research and try to be as accurate as possible. Corrections appreciated. If this your card, it will be mailed promptly upon receipt of payment......
