The people depicted are all people who believe in Mt. Fuji, known as Fuji-ko, and they use canes to crawl up the steep mountain surface as white clouds rise. Their faces were all exhausted, a testament to the rigors of the climb. At the top right of the screen is a stone chamber that seems to have been used by climbers to rest, and dozens of people are already crouching down to take a rest.
