Description: Hobby Master 1:72 Air Power Series HA3587 McDonnell Douglas F/A-18C Hornet Diecast Model USMC VMFA-312 Checkerboards, DR312, MCAS Iwakuni, Japan, 2022Limited Edition 1:72 Scale Length WidthMcDonnell Douglas F/A-18C Hornet 9.25" 6.25" In 2022, the United States Marine Corps' VMFA-312, known as the "Checkerboards," flew the F/A-18C Hornet, a multi-role fighter jet. Based at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Beaufort, South Carolina, and part of Marine Aircraft Group 31 (MAG-31), VMFA-312 provided air superiority, close air support, and precision strike capabilities. The F/A-18C, a versatile and combat-proven aircraft, was essential for Marine expeditionary forces, capable of operating from both land bases and aircraft carriers. In 2022, VMFA-312 continued its mission of maintaining combat readiness through rigorous training and operational deployments, supporting global U.S. military commitments and NATO allies. McDonnell Douglas F/A-18C Hornet Designed as a replacement for the A-4 Skyhawk and the A-7 Corsair II and as a complement to the F-14 Tomcat, the F/A-18 first flew on November 18, 1978. Perhaps best known as the aircraft of the US Navy's Blue Angels, this carrier-capable, supersonic, all-weather fighter has many roles, including fighter escort, fleet air defense and close air support. The F/A-18 is a versatile aircraft: it can operate from carriers or land bases and a single switch converts it from fighter to strike mode. During Operation Desert Storm, the F/A-18 proved that, on a single mission, one aircraft could serve as both fighter and a bomber. Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
