Description: Up for auction is a Brand New, HO Walthers/Shinohara Transition Track #948-897, Code 100 to Code 83 or reverse. This transition track uses Nickel Silver rail (the best) and sits on Black Plastic ties. This transition tracks allows your model trains to roll smoothly down from larger rail to smaller rail or to go up smoothly from smaller rail (Code 83) to larger rail (Code 100). In model railroad/train language, the code of the rail is it's height in relation to an inch. Hence, Code 100 in fraction terms is 100/1000 of an inch (1/10 inch). Code 83 rail is 83/1000 on an inch (about 1/12 inch). Real railroads use various sizes of rail for different types of operation. Mainline tracks get much bigger rail while yards and branch lines tend to get smaller rail (often, used rail). On my HO layout I use 5 different codes of rail: Code 100 & Code 83 for main lines; Code 70, Code 55 and even Code 40 for sidings, yards and branch lines.
