Description: This HO scale Athearn Ready To Roll (RTR) 78954 Norfolk Southern Dash 9-44CW (or C44-9W) #9970 diesel locomotive is a great addition to any model railroad enthusiast's collection. It is DCC ready (8 or 9-pin compatible decoders), but currently has an ESU LokSound 5 DCC sound decoder installed already. It features a digital control system, co-co wheel configuration, and a 1:87 scale. The locomotive is painted in Norfolk Southern's black, white, and yellow horse-head theme colors. The Athearn brand is known for its high-quality, pre-built model trains and this locomotive is no exception. It comes with a variety of features such as an ESU LokSound 5 DCC sound decoder, light function, and a Scale Sound Systems baffled speaker. NOTES: ALL of the handrails are glued down with clear canopy glue. The Scale Sound Systems speaker that is installed is model AHGS-UNI1-RC1. The installed ESU LokSound 5 DCC decoder is model 58420, which is an 8-pin decoder. The wires for the speaker on the decoder are soldered to the speaker. The locomotive is fully programmed with accurate sounds for this model and is set to DCC address 9970. The ESU sound file that is loaded to the decoder is project number S0772 (correct prime mover for a D9-40CW upgraded to a D9-44CW). The horn (CV 163) is set to a value of 10, for a Nathan K5-LA-R24, to match what is installed on Athearn's model. The bell (CV 164) is set to a value of 2, for "steel bell 3". The lights are NOT LED. They are regular, halogen/incandescent bulbs. There are only front and rear headlights. No other lighting is present. The ditch lights are factory painted fakes. I have only run this unit to test it, but I'm not sure if it was used when I bought it from a train show last year.
