This was put out by the Communist Party, Hill Section, located at 2203 Center Ave. in Pittsburgh's Hill District -- a workingclass Black, Italian and Jewish neighborhood (the setting for August Wilson's cycle of plays). In several urban areas, African Americans organized a "Hands of Ethiopia" campaign, fearing that the spread of fascism in Africa would make conditions much worse for Blacks all around the world and a threat to world peace. Prominent Black celebrities such as Paul Robeson and W.E.B. Du Bois spoke at rallies such as the "Harlem League Against War and Fascism" and A. Phillip Randolph compared Italy's invasion of Ethiopia to "the terrible repression of Black people in the United States." Only ten weeks after Mussolini invaded Ethiopia, his troops joined forces with Franco's forces to assault Spain's democratically elected government. African Americans saw this spread of hate as an extension of Jim Crow law in the United States and figured pro fascism an enemy to all Black people across the entire world. Very good.
